HOW TO: Interlock your own hair at home using a 4 POINT ROTATION // tips from a Loctician

Hey Family! I am back again to help you with another loc maintenance technique. This method is the interlock method. Not to be confused with the "crochet/needle" method. Interlocking is a looping system of three types: 2-points, 3-points, or 4-points. This method is a little challenging in the beginning while doing on your own. Take your time, take breaks, and do not loop in the same direction twice.

:::▶︎❤︎ THE PATTERNS OF INTERLOCKING ❤︎◀︎:::

Think of a clock: 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 9 o'clock...now picture your roots having those numbers positioned around it in a circle. 12,3,6, and 9 are the entry spots for the tool to enter and guide the loc through for tightening.

* 2 - point pattern: looping the loc in 2 points only (12 and 9 or 12 and 3) until the loc is close to the scalp.

* 3 - point pattern: looping the loc in 3 points only (12, 9 and 6 or 12, 3, and 6) until the loc is close to the scalp.

* 4 - point pattern: looping the loc in all 4 points (12, 9, 6, and 3 or 12, 3, 6, and 9) until the loc is close to the scalp. (*** this is the method I used in the video ***)

:::▶︎❤︎ PRODUCTS AND TOOLS I USED ❤︎◀︎:::

- Nourishing Hair Dew (http://www.keyvitalroots.com)

- Mighty 13 Scalp Treatment (http://www.keyvitalroots.com)

- Dual Interlocking Tool

- Alligator Clips

- Hair tie

***IF you already have a tool, please feel free to use it. However, please be very careful if you are using a latch hook. That tool can cause breakage if not used carefully and correctly. Make sure the latch door is completely closed before guiding it back out of the hair.***

:::▶︎❤︎ HOW TO INTERLOCK ❤︎◀︎:::

What you will see in the video is the 4-point pattern (12,3,6,9,12 for 1 full rotation) until the root is tight but not pulling.

- Spray and oil your locs; proceed to separating the locs at the root to prevent tangling.

- Start with the first loc in the row; use the alligator clip to hold the rest of locs back.

- Wrap the loose hair around the length of the loc

- Holding the root firmly; insert the tool into the middle of the root.

- Grab the tip of the loc; insert the loc into the loop; guide the loc back through.

- Repeat the above step for each position (12,3,6,9,12...) until the new growth is tighten and close to the scalp.

:::▶︎❤︎ HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU INTERLOCK ❤︎◀︎:::

- Every 2- 3 months; mature locs of 3+ years can go 3-4 months (while keeping the new growth moisturzied and separated at the roots)

:::▶︎❤︎ OTHER TIPS AND INFORMATION ❤︎◀︎:::

- Doing this method on yourself takes some time to get used too. Take your time and breaks!

- This method is great for those with active lifestyles where shampooing is more frequent than every 3 weeks.

- Tightening the roots sooner that 6 weeks is a NO NO. Stay with at minimum 6 weeks. Though 8 weeks (2 months) is recommended

- Tightening to frequently can cause thinning and breakage of the roots. The roots are the foundation to the locs. If that is not strong the loc will be lost.
